Pennsylvanians: Say NO to the Mega Homer City Gas Plant
Pennsylvania is at a crossroads. Right now, state regulators at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are considering approval for the largest gas-fired power plant in the entire country—the proposed Homer City Generation project. This massive fossil fuel facility would power a sprawling 3,200-acre data center and spew out more than 17 million tons of climate-warming pollution each year. That’s more than the total annual emissions of over 120 countries.
If approved, the plant would lock Pennsylvania into decades of fossil fuel dependence, fracking, toxic air pollution, and climate pollution causing worsening heatwaves, floods, and storms that are already threatening families across the Commonwealth. DEP’s approval of the proposed Homer City gas plant would also directly violate its affirmative obligations to safeguard Pennsylvania’s public natural resources and protect Pennsylvanians’ fundamental rights to clean air, pure water, and the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment guaranteed under Pennsylvania’s “Environmental Rights Amendment,” Article I, Section 27 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.
The good news? You have a voice.
Our Children’s Trust is submitting a public comment letter urging the DEP to deny the Plan Approval for this harmful project—and we’re collecting signatures from youth and Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth to add power and a chorus of voices to this critical demand.
Add Your Name Today! By signing on, you’ll join Pennsylvanians standing up for their fundamental rights and demanding that DEP protect people, not polluters. Together, we can stop this climate-wrecking project and push for a future built on clean, renewable energy. Let’s show DEP that Pennsylvanians won’t stand for a mega gas plant that sacrifices their health, safety, and future.
