July 9-23, 2025: Leading Experts File Amicus Briefs in Support of Youth

Leading children’s rights scholars, economists, and medical experts filed three amicus briefs emphasizing the legal, ethical, and scientific necessity of protecting children from disproportionate harms caused by government-sanctioned climate pollution.

A brief from prominent children’s rights scholars explains that current federal economic policies violate constitutional protections by systematically undervaluing children’s health and safety in favor of short-term economic interests.

Leading economists criticized the federal government’s reliance on high discount rates, explaining that discounting obscures the full costs of climate damage on future generations and reflects biased value judgments, rather than sound economic science.

And medical and public health professionals highlight extensive scientific evidence demonstrating children’s unique vulnerability to climate change impacts, including growing rates of asthma, heat-related illness, and mental health challenges.
