June 12, 2026: Court Denies State’s Request to Transfer Venue

The Montana First Judicial District Court denied a motion by the State of Montana and House Speaker Brandon Ler to transfer the case from Broadwater County to Richland County. The court ruled that Broadwater County is a proper venue for the case under Montana’s recently amended venue laws and that the State failed to establish that a transfer was appropriate. The case will continue in Broadwater County.
